Jannette "Jan" Dorothy (Cohoon) Peterson of Altoona, age 78, died on Monday, October 5, 2015 at Oakwood Villa in Altoona surrounded by her children.

Jan was born on February 7, 1937 to the late Raymond and Catherine (Pregent) Cohoon in Chippewa Falls. On December 22, 1956, she married Raymond A. Peterson in Chippewa Falls. They lived in Rock Falls on the family farm where they raised six children and Jan was a stay at home mom. While on the farm, Jan also raised a big garden and helped with the family chores.

After the children were grown, Jan took on some jobs such as working as a morning Hostess at the Hampton Inn and a clerk at Only Deals in the Oakwood Mall. Later in life she would crochet many items such as lap quilts, stocking hats, etc. for residents in nursing homes in Durand, Mondovi and Eau Claire. She also made numerous baby booties and caps for Eau Claire hospitals to give to newborn babies.

She was a very social person and made a lot of people happy at Oakwood Villa Nursing Home helping with Bingo, cards, crafts and delivering mail to the other residents. She loved swimming with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and teaching them card games.

She is survived by her children, Sally (Edward Jr.) Sabelko of Durand, Bob (Carla) Peterson of Altoona, Sandy Hoffmeister of Altoona, Betty Zahid of Madison, and John (Linda) Loff-Peterson of Rock Falls; 15 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; sisters, Nancy (Ron) Richardson of St. Paul, MN, Katherine Vance of Racine, Bonnie Cohoon of Sparta, and Marian (Jim) Tremblay of Sparta; many other family members and friends.

Jan was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond on April 24, 2010; daughter, Penny Halling; and brothers, Jerry and Raymond.

Honoring a life with a meaningful service is an important step in the grief process and is a gift to their family and friends —
a gift of memories and a gift of healing
