FLOHR, Arlene A., age 84

Died: Thursday, August 6th, 2015

Mass of Christian Burial: 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Altoona with Father John Schultz officiating

Visitation: 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Evergreen Funeral Home on Friday with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and also one hour prior to Mass at church on Saturday

Entombment: Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, Town of Washington, Wisconsin

 

Arlene A. (Karis) Flohr, age 84, of Altoona died unexpectedly on Thursday, August 6, 2015 at Sacred Heart Hospital.

Arlene was born on July 26, 1931 in Bruce, Wisconsin to the late Ernest and Mary (Schiessl) Karis. She graduated from Bruce HS and went on to earn a teaching certificate in Elementary Education from UW Superior. She married Raymond G. Flohr in Bruce on June 6th,1953. Her education was completed by receiving both her Bachelors and Masters Degrees from UWEC while raising her family of five children. 

Arlene taught elementary education all her life with some years spent in Spooner and Chippewa Falls before teaching full time at Pederson Elementary School in Altoona, retiring in 1990.

Activities shared with her family and friends including camping, dancing, card games and travel. In her retirement she found time to spend with grandchildren, baking, babysitting and attending all of their various activities. She was a devoted Catholic and a very active parishioner of St. Mary's.  Arlene had also been a member of the Altoona Lions Club for several years.

She is survived by children; Mike (Lisa) of Hastings, MI and their children, Jason (Mary), Steve (Stephanie), Kelli (Dan) Worth, Andrew (Jen) Vorhees and Elisha (Neil) Millar; Julie Haugen (Bill Schmidt) of Oakdale, MN and her children, Kristen Fuller, Greg (Amanda), Cody and Nick; Gary (Christie) of Chippewa Falls and her children, Travis (Tanya) Dreke, Sarah (George) Hite; and Jane (Lee) Scheuermann of Eau Claire and their children, Jeff and Becky (Mitch) Hunsley; 8 great grandchildren; sisters, Audrey Timmers of Isle, MN and Shirley (Nevin) Keach Zezza of Ladysmith WI; sister-in-law, Joanne Karis of Menomonie; other family members and friends.

Arlene was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Ray in 1997; son, Mark "Bird" (2007); sister, LaVerne Arvold (1994); and brother, Bud Karis (2015).
