Interment: Mauston City Cemetery in Mauston, Wisconsin

Helen A. Schmit, age 86, of Eau Claire passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at the Crystal Care Center in Crystal, Minnesota.

Helen was born on April 22, 1925 to the late George and Sarah (Nelson) Jax in New Lisbon, Wisconsin. Following graduation from high school, she attended and graduated from LaCrosse Teachers College. Helen returned to New Lisbon teaching elementary school in the New Lisbon, Lone Rock, and Port Washington schools. On July 25, 1953, she married Wilfred Schmit in New Lisbon, Wisconsin.

She is survived by her children, Sharon "Shari" (Scott) Barta of Brooklyn Park, MN, Douglas W. (Annette Aluzas) Schmit of Culpepper, VA, Michael (Robin Westin-Schmit) Schmit of Deephaven, MN, and Raymond L. Schmit, of Minneapolis, MN; grandchildren, David, Sara, Matthew, Eric, Brian, Caitlin, and Jillian.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Wilfred, and all her siblings.
