Gerald was born July 3, 1931, to the late Herman and Bertha (Haft) Rehberg in Eau Claire. He graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1950. During the Korean War, the U.S. Army drafted and stationed Jerry in Japan for two years. He achieved the rank of Corporal and received letters of commendation for his meritorious manner and most commendable service along with ribbons and a medal. He continued his service for an additional 6 years in the Army Reserves.

On April 7, 1962, he was united in marriage to Virginia Berger Johnson and instantly became a loving father of 5 children.

Jerry was employed at the YMCA as aquatic director, basketball and volleyball coach prior to joining the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier for 38 years. He was active in the NALC #728 for over 50 years and the Postal Credit Union. Jerry was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers. He also enjoyed gardening, walking his dogs, and volunteering at the American Legion in Eau Claire.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Virginia; daughters, Julie (Rodney) Swenson, Joan Olson, Gail (Nolan) Nelsestuen, and Amy (David) Dittner; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his daughter, Kay Rehberg Howard; sons, Daniel (Sandy) Johnson and Paul Johnson; and son-in-law, Donavan Olson.

Honoring a life with a meaningful service is an important step in the grief process and is a gift to their family and friends —
a gift of memories and a gift of healing
