Marion L. Stephenson, age 89, of Chippewa Falls died peacefully Tuesday, November 28, 2023 surrounded by family under home hospice.
Marion was born November 5, 1934 to the late Norman and Edna (Berg) Davis. She graduated with the Class of 1952 from Eau Claire High School. On May 15, 1954, Marion married Martin "Marty" Stephenson at First Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. She was married for 60 years and lived in Lake Hallie, WI for 62 years. Marion was a faithful member at First Lutheran Church and more recently at Faith Lutheran Mission Church in Eau Claire. Throughout her life, she sang in numerous choirs.
After high school, Marion worked briefly at Presto Industries. She then raised six children while working for 28 years in the shoe department at J.C. Penney in downtown Eau Claire. People who recognized her on the street after her retirement knew Marion as the "shoe lady." For many years following retirement, Marion and Marty were "snowbirds" spending winters in central Florida.
She was very proud of her children and grandchildren and that they all went to college. Marion had many friends throughout her life, but it wasn't until later that she made her most cherished friendship with Carol Heimerl.
Marion is survived by her children, Sheryl (Dale) Shipman of Chippewa Falls, Julie (Jim) Weber of Eau Claire, Randy of Kirkland, WA, Brad (Chong) of San Marcos, CA, Kevin (Tammie) of Madison, AL, and Michael (Stephanie) of Carterville, IL; grandchildren, Laine Shipman, Brent (Miranda) Shipman, Heather Stephenson, Kristi (Cameron) Foss, Ryan Stephenson, Matthew Stephenson, Andrew and Owen Stephenson, Joe Weber, and Theresa Link; great grandchildren, Wells and Everett Shipman, JJ and Beatrix Link; sister, Verna (Sidney) Sivertson; many other family members and friends, and her beloved pet, Bindi.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin; sisters, Ardis Zaruba and Marlene Ryba; and brother, Richard.
