Vigil Service: 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home

Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at St. Olaf Catholic Church with Father Brian Konopa officiating

Memorials are preferred to the family

Interment: Lakeview Cemetery, Eau Claire, Wisconsin

 

Dr. James Monroe LaLiberte, age 83, of Eau Claire passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, January 28, 2012.

James was born on April 8, 1928 to the late Rueben and Luella (Ruelle) LaLiberte in Niagara, WI. In 1946, James graduated from Niagara High School, enlisted in the army and was part of the post war occupational force in Japan as well as serving on Guam. After military service he studied Dentistry at Marquette University, was a member of Psi Omega Fraternity and graduated in 1954.

On August 21, 1953, he married Ruth Olson in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He began his dental practice in Neenah, then moving to Arcadia in 1963 where he continued in practice until his retirement in 1987.  He belonged to the American Dental Association. James and Ruth moved to Eau Claire shortly after his retirement to be near family in the area.

James enjoyed golfing, fishing, deer and pheasant hunting with his sons, brother and friends as well as camping trips with his children. He was a member of the St Olaf Parish Choir.

James is survived by his wife, Ruth; sons, Paul (Mary) of Eau Claire, Dr. Steven (Nancy) of Onalaska, John (Sue Newstetter) of Mt. Vernon, Oregon, James (Claudia) of Lake Elmo, MN, and Mark of Rochester, MN; daughters, Mary (Geoff) Goodland of Eau Claire, Christine (Greg) Benrud of Neenah, and Lisa (Jeff) Mack of Eau Claire; grandchildren, Noah (Tiffany), Jacob (Rebecca), Andrew, Stephanie, Mitchell, Jason, Matt, Luke, Ryan, Alyssa, Angela, Nathan, Elaine, Rachel; step sisters-in law, Jacqueline Woodrow of Mukwonago,WI, and Mary (Sherman) Davis of Lake Isabella, CA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Fr. Robert LaLiberte and sister-in-law, Phyllis Olson.
