Alvin A. Holstein, age 86, of Eau Claire died on Thursday, November 1, 2012 at the VA Medical Center in Tomah, Wisconsin. Alvin was born on March 7, 1926 to the late Alvin and Mary (Kromo) Holstein in Mondovi, Wisconsin. During WWII, he proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy. Alvin was married to Geraldine P. Paulson in Mondovi and was the previous owner of Smith's Country Inn (Al and Gerri's). Alvin enjoyed spending time golfing, gardening, going out to lunch with Jeff Kain, especially growing onions with his friend, Karl Walter, being a would be carpenter, and being outdoors. Alvin was a member of several military organizations. His smile and presence will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Alvin in survived by his daughter, Dianne Schmitt (Dale Deardorff) of Eau Claire; grandchildren, Daniel (Bobbi) Schmitt, Bradley Schmitt, Toni Klawiter, and Michelle (Tanner) Hatli, Todd Flors and family; great grandchildren, Katrina Klawiter, Taven Hatli, McKinna Klawiter, Apryle (Paul) Pilkey, Daniel (Amber) Schmitt, Jason and Billy Schmitt and Logan Hatli; brother, Merle (Karen) Holstein; sister, Verena Westberg; many nieces and nephews; special friend, Steve Champion. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine; daughter, Donna; son, David; 11 brothers and sisters. The family would like to thank the staff at the V. A. Medical Center for their wonderful care and support.
