John C. Welter, age 76, of Eau Claire, peacefully passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at Heritage Assisted Living in Eau Claire.

John was born January 26, 1950, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to the late Duane "Curly" and Lucille "Lou" (Schultz) Welter. He enjoyed his childhood spent with neighborhood friends on Long Street. He graduated from Regis High School in 1968 and from UW-EC in 1972. He began his lifelong teaching career at Bloomer High School where he taught history and English for thirty-five years. During his time at Bloomer High he also coached baseball, produced many plays, and taught driver's education.

In 1970, John married the late Donna (Rhodes) Zais and they shared three children, and divorced in 1991.

John enjoyed baseball, camping, and fishing. He was an avid reader, especially about history, and enjoyed cooking later in his life. He was extremely generous and was an advocate for many charitable organizations. John was a dedicated father, grandfather, and great grandfather, and enjoyed "guys night" with his former colleagues and friends.

He is survived by his children, Paul (Rebecca) Welter of Inver Grove Heights, MN, Chris (Nicole) Welter of Orlando, FL, and Alicia (Shawn) Weisenbeck of Eau Claire; grandchildren, Danny, Andy, Chanté, Cevon, Kaden and Katelyn; great grandson, KJ "Huddy"; bonus grandchildren, Keyandra (Jolee and Liam), Mqylei (Nick), Netayo, Nyeisa, and Vivyana; brother, Jim (Lou) Welter; many cousins, other relatives and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

We wish to express our gratitude to the staff of St. Croix Hospice and Heritage Senior Living for their care and compassion.
