SHERMAN, Thomas R., age 95

Died: Tuesday, April 18th, 2017

Private family services will be held.

Interment: will be at later date in Nora Cemetery, Rice Lake, Wisconsin

 

Thomas "Tom" R. Sherman, age 95, of Bloomer (formerly of New Auburn) passed away on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at the Atrium in Bloomer.

Tom was born on November 20, 1921 to the late Melvin and Olive (Nelson) Sherman in Little Falls, Minnesota. He proudly served our country during World War II from August, 1942 to August, 1945 in the U.S. Army. He served as a sergeant/tank commander with the 701st Tank Destroyer Battalion in North Africa and Italy. He was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor. Tom was grateful for the opportunity to be part of a Freedom Flight to Washington, D.C. in 2012 being able to visit the WWII Memorial.

Sherman, ThomasOn November 3, 1946, he married Ona Longberg at Hope Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. Tom worked as a printer for Graphic Printing in Eau Claire, retiring in 1983. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and traveling throughout the United States.

He is survived by his sons, James (Mary) Sherman of Chippewa Falls and Terry (Karen) Sherman of Lake Hallie; daughter, Laurie Lombard of Bloomer; grandchildren, Cary Sherman, Jeff Sherman (Mandi Beers), Nate (Lauren) Sherman, Kevin (Carla) Twardowski and Chanda (Sean) Thompson; 9 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandsons; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ona; grandson, Adam Thomas Sherman; and sister, Ruth Pittman.

A special thank you to all of the staff at Atrium Post Acute Care and Mayo Clinic Hospice - Eau Claire for the wonderful care and love given to Tom.
