Paul H. Sorenson was welcomed home by Jesus Christ on Friday, June 29, 2018, at the age of 79.

Paul was born in Eau Claire on August 29, 1938 to the late Arthur and Lillian (Hanson) Sorenson; the oldest of two children. He graduated from Memorial High School in 1956 and enjoyed his time playing trombone in the marching band. After graduation, he enlisted with the U.S. Navy and traveled around the world serving his country for 11 years.

After his honorable discharge, Paul lived in many areas of the U.S., from California to Virginia; but his heart was always in Eau Claire. So was the love of his life! Paul and Joanne (née Johnson) Eisold were married in the Lutheran church on September 18, 1981. Paul's love for his bride only grew during their wedded years. He and Joanne were married again in the Catholic Church on September 23, 2016. Yes, they have two wedding dates, but only one 36-year marriage. Paul often said, "Joanne is the best thing that ever happened to me." Throughout their marriage, Paul was loving and helpful as he tended to Joanne's medical needs. In later years, Paul had a great fear of outliving Joanne. He couldn't imagine life without her.

Paul was a gifted salesman, no matter the product. In Eau Claire, he mainly worked in furniture sales concluding his sales career with Hom Furniture. Paul loved music, including performing impromptu with military buddies when in port and in local bands after military discharge. He loved boxing, the Green Bay Packers, and the Wisconsin Badgers. His great sense of humor will be deeply missed.

Paul is survived by his wife, Joanne, and her children, Cindy (Rick) Larson, Mark (Kathy) Eisold, Toni (Stevie Miller) Eisold, and Gary (Nancy) Eisold; by his children, Kim (Rozanne) Sorenson, Monica McCall Shadle, Debbie (Doc) Howard, Paul Allen (Crystal) Sorenson, Kevin (Tonya) Sorenson, Jeff (Adriana) Sorenson, and Chris (Tiffany) Sorenson; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Janet Sorenson; and from Joanne's family, sisters-in-law, Marcelle Hanson, Joycelle Smith, Judy Burns (Mark Roswold), and Linda (Steven) DesForge; many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Joseph and Marie (Pitts) Johnson; his brother, John, to cancer; and from Joanne's family: sisters-in-law, Florence (Alfred) Weichert, Shirley (Harry) Millwood, and Yvonne (Neil) Bradford; brothers-in-law, Odin Johnson, Richard Johnson, David Smith and Gary Burns.

The family acknowledges the dedicated, loving, compassionate, and tender care provided by Gary over the latter years to Paul, helping him to sustain his dignity as his dementia progressed. Gary, please know no one could have cared for Paul any better - no one.

"There is more than enough room in my Father's home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am."  John 14:2-3 NLT

Honoring a life with a meaningful service is an important step in the grief process and is a gift to their family and friends —
a gift of memories and a gift of healing
