Visitation: one hour prior to service at church

Interment: Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake, Wisconsin

Alvie H. Wood, age 90, of Houlton, WI passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2016 at Dove Healthcare - West in Eau Claire.

Alvie was born on February 16, 1926 to the late Seth and Esther (Sandford) Wood in Clayton Township, Wisconsin. He was baptized at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church and attended Green Creek School in rural Clear Lake.

In 1945, he joined the U.S. Army. Following basic training at Camp Wheeler, GA he was sent to the Asiatic- Pacific Theater, the Philippines and Korea. He served in the 1st Infantry, 6th Division and was honorably discharged in 1947 from Fort Sheridan, IL at the rank of Sergeant. After his discharge he worked for Stella Cheese Co. in Glenwood City, at the Arsenal in Arden Hills, MN before becoming employed in 1959 by Paper, Calmenson & Company (PACAL) in St. Paul, MN where he worked 32+ years until his retirement in 1985.

On July 18, 1953 he was united in marriage to Crystal Bjorgum at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Amery. They lived a short time in Clear Lake before moving to St. Paul. In 1955, they bought property near Houlton, WI where they built their home. In 1956, they became members of Bethel Lutheran Church in Hudson where he was an usher for several years. They were able to enjoy many travels throughout the United States and Canada together.

Alvie was a very successful hunter of both deer and small game and loved fishing trout on the Willow River near Hudson. He was a member of the 4 Country Corners Sportsman Club, motorcycle clubs of Clear Lake and Amery, as well as the National Rifle Association.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Crystal; siblings, Orval (Juanita) Wood of Spokane Valley, WA, Norma (Norman) Reed of Clear Lake, and Bonnie (Richard) Bale of Sun City West, AZ and Amery; sister-in-law, Alane Wood of Hudson; three Godsons, special nieces and nephew, Karen Hauck, Cindy Knudtson and Ron Martin; close friend, Linda Bailey.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mildred Benson and Nona Wood; brother, Ray Wood.
