Marie Mae Lindoo, age 98, of Eau Claire, died on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Oak Gardens in Altoona.

Marie was born on June 2, 1919, in Eau Claire to the late John and Augusta (Reinhardt) Biersteker. Marie attended St. Patrick's Catholic School through the 8th grade and graduated from Eau Claire High School. She went to work at the Northwest Institute of Medical Technology. Marie went on to work for Eidel Clinic in Minneapolis, Sacred Heart Hospital and Presto Industries as a lab technician.

On January 20, 1945, Marie married Max Lindoo. When asked why anyone living in Wisconsin would get married in January, her immediate response has always been, "there was an apartment available."

Marie loved her life of travels with husband, Max, as his work with Uniroyal took him from Turkey, Belgium, and Mexico City. While living in Turkey, they were told of a 14 year old girl who was too old to live in the orphanage according to Turkey law. They learned this through a Peace Corps worker, Stacey Rockwell, who worked at the orphanage. Through tears, Stacey told them this was a very special young lady and needed a good family. Marie and Max said not to give it another thought as they would take her in. It took a long time working with the Turkish Government, but in the end, they were able to adopt Meral.

With all the travels and exciting places to live, Marie always said her fondest memories were as a child when her family would go "to the farm at Hickory Grove in Nelson" on Sunday and play with her cousins and ride the horses. Marie had a very definite artistic talent in many ways making beautiful clothes for herself and Max as well as Halloween costumes for her son, Mark.  Anyone connected with Marie knows of her love of animals and there was always a cat and/or dogs in the home. She had a very special companion the past year who was with her almost on a daily basis - Corkey. He cuddled beside her and always ended up at her feet, "keeping them warm" as Marie liked to say. Thank you, Ginny, for making this possible.

Marie is survived by her son, Mark; daughter, Meral (Ozel) Ergen; two grandsons; three great grandchildren; nephew, Phillip (Linda) Grasser; niece, Abigail (Kent) Petterson; many other family and longtime friends around the world.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Max; and sister, Mildred Grasser Juneau.

Honoring a life with a meaningful service is an important step in the grief process and is a gift to their family and friends —
a gift of memories and a gift of healing
