Interment: Forest Hill Cemetery, Eau Claire, Wisconsin

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to either UW-EC, UW-River Falls, L.E. Phillips Library, L.E. Phillips Senior Center, or Grace Lutheran Church ELCA (P.O. Box 965, Eau Claire, WI  54702).

Ruby M. Nelson, age 103, of Eau Claire died on Friday, December 13, 2013 at the Syverson Lutheran Home in Eau Claire.

Ruby was born on February 3, 1910 to the late Albert and Karen (Jensen) Howe in Elk Mound, Wisconsin. She married the love of her life, Robert E. Nelson, on June 21, 1938. Ruby taught elementary school for 30 years, teaching in Downing, Mondovi, and in Eau Claire for 22 years retiring in 1975. She received her two-year teaching license from the Teacher's College in River Falls and in 1964 she received her four-year teaching degree from Wisconsin State University - Eau Claire. Ruby spent many years volunteering her time and talents with many community and church organizations.

She is survived by her son, Robert E. Nelson, Jr.; daughter, Kay Whitney; grandson, Sean and his wife, Deborah, all of Eau Claire; great grandchildren, Trinity DeSanctis and her husband, Chistopher, Gabriel, Sean II, and Alexus; sister, Genevieve E. Nelson of Menomonie. 

Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; son-in-law, John L. Whitney; and grandson, John L. Whitney, Jr.; 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
