Jean Schlieve
June 10, 1928 - July 2, 2017

"Unable are the loved to die, for love is immortality. Love is like life, merely shorter." - Emily Dickinson

Immortality knocked and on July 2 Jean Frances Davey Schlieve opened the door. She was born in Marinette, WI to Allan Cecil and Lucile (Wade) Davey. The family moved to Oshkosh, WI then La Grange, IL. Jean matriculated UW Madison in 1946. While attending Madison, her roommate thought it would be funny to set her up on a date with another Jean. Jean Davey married Jean Schlieve on May 28, 1949. After raising 4 children Jean returned to UW Eau Claire where she received a BS and a Masters Degree. Jean had a life long passion for reading as Jane Austen noted "... there is no enjoyment like reading". In fact, Jean was writing a series of baby books based on classic literature, including those of Jane Austen. Jean had a passion for teaching, she taught at Bloomer High for 25 years and taught English all over the world: Poland, Hungary, Germany, China and Egypt. Jean inspired her daughter and several grandchildren to become educators. Jean was a lifelong learner and her thirst for knowledge and love of travel took her around the world where she enjoyed connecting with history and experiencing different cultures.

Jean was elegant and gentle with a wonderful sense of humor and desire for adventure. Jean loved to sing and everything reminded her of a song. Jean's faith in God and love of country were very important to her and unwavering. Jean's generosity of spirit led to her support of many organizations with both time and money. "It isn't what we say or think that defines us, but what we do". (Jane Austen). Jean was a member of First Baptist Church for 68 years, a 53 year charter member of P.E.O. Chapter BE in Eau Claire and a dedicated member of the Eau Claire County Board for 13 years.

Jean is survived by her children: Amy (Chris Stokes) Schlieve, Don (Dee) Schlieve, and Nancy Schlieve; daughters-in-law, Cheryl Schlieve and Rebecca Phillips; grandchildren: Nathan (Amy) Schlieve, Christine (Paul) Livingston, Andrew (Renee) Schlieve, Aaron Stokes, Alyssa (Andy) Engedal, Lara (James) Schlieve, Mark (Nicole) Schlieve, Emily (Tom) Prissel and Gabriel Schlieve; 7 great-grandchildren; brother, John (Eleanor) Davey; sister, Barbara Peters; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was predeceased in death by her husband of 54 years, Jean Marten; eldest son, Richard Davey; and her parents.

Honoring a life with a meaningful service is an important step in the grief process and is a gift to their family and friends —
a gift of memories and a gift of healing
