George S. Schulner, age 85, of Eau Claire passed away on Monday, June 16, 2014 surrounded by his family at Dove Health Care West in Eau Claire.

George was born on August 25, 1928 to the late George A. and Severina T. (Wollum) Schulner in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He graduated from Durand High School in 1945. On May 6, 1950 he married Evelyn I. Vradenburg at the United Methodist Church in Durand. He worked for the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul Pacific Railroad in Durand and as a meat cutter at George's Cash Food Market, the A&P Store, and Randall's in Eau Claire.

He was an avid Wisconsin sports fan. Along with the Brewers and Badgers, he did not miss a Packer game cheering on the beloved Green and Gold with his family. George enjoyed being in the outdoors either hunting or fishing, including trips to Canada, the Blue Hills, and the Tiffany Bottoms. He was also a longtime member of the Eau Claire Rod and Gun Club. George was also an active member of Hope Lutheran Church in Eau Claire for many years.

He enjoyed spending time with his wife, Evelyn and family, and was very proud of his children, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren, along with grand dogs, Kurby and Tucker, and guinea pig, Tootsie. George enjoyed the occasional trip to the casino too, and could be found relaxing in his favorite recliner. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

George is survived by his wife, Evelyn; children, Jeffrey (Wanda) Schulner and Sandra Schulner all of Eau Claire; grandchildren, Riley Schulner (Gina and her son, Dylan) of Eau Claire and Casey Schulner (fiancé, Andrew) of Kansas City, MO; sisters, Donna Franzwa of Eleva and Betty (Bill) Wolf of Eau Claire; brother-in-law, DeWayne Gifford; sisters-in-law, Carol Schulner, Phyllis Vradenburg, Lucille (Glenn) Barquest, and Margaret Hofmeister; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Lois Markman and Shirley Gifford; brother, Jack Schulner; brothers-in-law, Donald Franzwa, Everett Vradenburg, and Clarence Hofmeister; and sister-in-law, Dorothy (Tim) Torgrimson.

Our heartfelt thanks to Drs. Chris Roberts, Brad Grewe, and Richard Hanna; Nurse Practitioner Lisa O'Neill; Deb from the Heart Failure Clinic; the staff of Mayo Clinic Health Systems - Eau Claire and their Home Health Care and Hospice team; and the administration and staff of the second floor at Dove Health Care West for the wonderful care and support they all gave to George and his family.

Honoring a life with a meaningful service is an important step in the grief process and is a gift to their family and friends —
a gift of memories and a gift of healing
