A new bass singer has joined the heavenly choir. Gene A. Rehberg, age 80, of Eau Claire died on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at home surrounded by his family.

Gene was born on May 14, 1932 to the late Victor and Irene (Rood) Rehberg in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1950. On October 22, 1951, Gene married Joan McCluskey at Grace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. He traveled the Midwest region many years as a sales representative for American Greeting Cards. He was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church.

Being in the outdoors was his passion; either fishing (with his best buddy, Dave Nadler), hunting, or trapshooting. Creating things with his hands was more than a hobby: he loved woodworking, making gun cabinets, and especially creating nearly a thousand customized fishing rods.

He carried the bass section in many area musical groups starting out with the Four Teens Barbershop Quartet. He also sang with The Eau Claire Male Chorus, Valley Gospel Choir (founding member), and the Hope Lutheran Church Choir.

Gene is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joan; son, Reverend Greg Rehberg of Petaluma, CA; daughter, Cheryl (Paul) Dennison of Superior, WI; grandchildren, Theresa (Roger) Angus, Lindsey Rehberg, David Dennison, and Eric Rehberg; great grandchildren, Oscar and Mareesa; half-sister, Janice Prokott, many other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Mark, on November 26, 2006.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of St. Joseph's Hospice for their wonderful care.

Honoring a life with a meaningful service is an important step in the grief process and is a gift to their family and friends —
a gift of memories and a gift of healing
