Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 28, 2015 at Chapel Heights United Methodist Church in Eau Claire with Pastor Cheryl Miskimen officiating

Visitation: family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at the church

Interment: a private interment will be held at a later date

Rodney "Yardstick" Smoot, age 69, of Eau Claire passed away peacefully on Monday, December 21, 2015 surrounded by family after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.

Rodney was born on December 7, 1946 to the late Edgar and Sophie (Patz) Smoot in Oconto Falls, Wisconsin. He graduated from Suring High School and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Rodney worked as a long distance truck driver 22 years with Smead Manufacturing and the last 16 ½ years with Walmart. Rodney enjoyed watching his beloved Green Bay Packers, spending weekends at the lake fishing, traveling, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Marge; brother, Dick Smoot of Gillett, WI; sister, Darlene Peterson of Kenosha, WI; children, Brent (Barb) Smoot of Milwaukee, Melissa Smoot of Red Wing, MN, Shawn (Amanda) Smoot of Mpls, MN; grandchildren, Darrik (Natasha), Hailey, Jacob, Logan, Sylvi, and Jackson; great granddaughter, Paisley; Marge's children, Steve (Roxy) Roadway, Dave Roadway, Jody Prebe, Russ (Char) Roadway, and Tanja (Joe) Evers; along with Marge's 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Rodney was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Smoot; step mother, Dolly; and step brother, Donald Peterson.
