Brian Gene Amundson, age 64, of Eau Claire passed away at home with family by his side on September 19, 2014.

Brian was born on May 18, 1950, in London, England to Ray and Eileen (Pfund) Amundson. He graduated from Brookings Senior High School in 1968 and the University of Minnesota in 1973. On June 3, 1972, he married Rhonda Borchert.

His 40 year public works career included serving as Assistant City Engineer, Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota; City Engineer, Fairmont, Minnesota; and Eau Claire's City Engineer from 1986 through 1996 and Director of Public Works from 1998 through 2013. He served as President of the Wisconsin Chapter of the American Publics Works Association and was named one of the 2010 Top Ten Public Works Leaders of the Year. He also received the 2009 John Curtis Chapter Service Award from the APWA's Wisconsin Chapter and two Outstanding Public Employee awards from the Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce.

For 27 years Brian was a member of the Eau Claire Country Club being active on the Green's Committee and contributed significantly to the reconstruction of the golf course in 2003. In addition to his love of golf, Brian enjoyed long distance running which included the completion of 10 marathons and participation in several local running events. Throughout his life he enjoyed supporting the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers sports (Ski-U-Mah!).

Brian is survived by his wife, Rhonda, and his daughter, Jamee Amundson. He is also survived by his mother, Eileen (Pfund) Amundson; brothers, Dennis (Jeri) Amundson and Michael (Cynthia) Amundson; brother-in-law, Ronald (Barbara) Borchert; nieces and nephews, Chad, Julie, Jason, Carrie and Michael; and many other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ray Amundson.
