Max L. Lindoo, age 100, of Eau Claire, died on Friday, October 14, 2016 at his home.

Max was born on July 29, 1916 in a farm house in Argos, Indiana to the late John A. and Blanche (Tiffany) Lindoo. He was the second of four children raised on the farm before the family moved to town when Max was in 2nd grade. In 1928, they moved to Ladysmith, WI where Max graduated from high school in 1934. He furthered his education at the UW-Madison graduating with a degree in chemical engineering.

Immediately after graduation, Max was hired by Gillette Rubber Company (aka Uniroyal). While working with Gillette, he worked for DeMoines Munition, Eau Claire Munition and Detroit Development. After years of traveling, he returned to Eau Claire for twenty years while still with Gillette.

In 1945, Max married Marie Biersteker and together they enjoyed the many years of travel while Max was employed with Gillette. They lived in Adapazri, Turkey for six years and Marie became involved with the Peace Corps having many house guests stay with them and become live long friends. One friend, Stacey Rockwood, worked for an orphanage. Through tears she told them of the Turkish rule that 14 year old girls were too old to live in the orphanage and she knew of one girl who was so special and in need of a home. Marie and Max told Stacey not to give it another thought as they would give her a home. They had to get approval from the Government to take her in as well as finally adopting her. That little girl was Meral who has loved them from that day on. From Turkey, Max was sent to Belgium from 1971 to 1978. During this time he had to make many trips to Poland. Since the planes available were only those with propellers, Max much preferred driving for which he had to have permission due to check points. In 1978, they moved to Mexico City where he was Tech Manager until 1981. Max and Marie settled in Hopland, CA in 1981 where they lived until returning to Eau Claire in 1987.

Max was an avid outdoorsman enjoying skiing, canoeing, and fishing. He was gifted at woodworking and became "Mr. Fixit" for the family. He was involved with clubs and organizations during his lifetime and has been very active with the Kiwanis since returning to Eau Claire.

Max had a favorite thought on life - "Life perhaps was not as good as hoped, but a lot better than I expected."

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Marie; son, Mark; daughter, Meral (Ozel) Ergen; brother, Roger; nephew, Phillip (Linda) Grasser; niece, Abigail (Kent) Petterson; 2 grandsons; 3 great grandchildren; many other family members and longtime friends worldwide.

Max was preceded in death by his brother, James; and sister, Harriet Mathews.

Honoring a life with a meaningful service is an important step in the grief process and is a gift to their family and friends —
a gift of memories and a gift of healing
