George Carl Jevne, age 96, of Eau Claire died peacefully at his home on Sunday, August 23, 2015.

George was born on December 18, 1918 to the late Gilbert and Bessie (Erickson) Jevne in Meridean, Wisconsin. He was raised on a small farm and attended grade school in Meridean, both Eau Claire and Durand High Schools and later in life, the UW-Eau Claire. On June 30, 1940, George married Ann Larson at First Lutheran Church in Eau Claire enjoying 60 years together before Ann's death in 2000.

He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman Guard for the base police at the Amphibious Training Base in Little Creek, Virginia; later being commissioned by the U.S. Army as a Lieutenant.

George was employed at U.S. Rubber Co. in Eau Claire for a short time before joining the Eau Claire Police Department where he served until his retirement on January 1, 1974. During his employment with the department he was promoted to Special Investigator, Detective, Lieutenant and lastly to Lt. of Detectives where he was in charge of the Detective Bureau for 17 years. During that time he helped develop and maintain both the photography laboratory and polygraph section. The polygraph instrument (operated by George) helped solve many crimes by the Eau Claire Police and arsons for the State Fire Marshall in Eau Claire and throughout Northwestern Wisconsin. He was an excellent marksman with his pistol winning many medals and trophies both individually and with many State Championship teams.

As a very active community member, he served on many boards, organizations, and clubs including: the United Commercial Travelers, Benevolent Order of Elks, George B. Wheeler Masonic Lodge #351, Valley of Eau Claire Scottish Rite, Zor Shrine, Chippewa Shrine Club, Eau Claire Mehara Shrine Club, the American Legion, charter member of both the Eau Claire Cavaliers Baseball Board of Directors and Golden K Kiwanis Club, Eau Claire Campfire Girls, and County Youth Camp Board when it was first organized working many years on the development of projects and buildings. He was a long time, active member of First Lutheran Church in Eau Claire.

For over 40 years, George and his wife, Ann, operated a part time photography business focusing on school group and individual portraits. After his retirement, it was expanded to include wedding photography as well.

George and Ann enjoyed many years of hosting family and friends at Boot Lake. He loved being active outdoors whether it was golfing at Hillcrest Golf and Country Club, hunting, fishing, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, or doing archery. Until health problems forced him to stop, for many years George was an avid jogger and was a charter member helping organize the Eau Claire Indianhead Track Club.

A huge fan of High School Boys Basketball, George attended the State Tournaments in Madison for over 55 years. He was also an avid fan of Memorial High School Boys Basketball not missing very many home games over the years.

George will be greatly missed by all who knew him, but especially by his family who survive him including: daughters, Sharon (Charles) Littlefield of Puyallup, WA and Carmen (John) Ouimet of Eau Clare; grandchildren, Michele (Nate) Olson, Julie Poe, Jeff Graves; great grandchildren, Annalise and August Olson, Nicholas and Shane Graves; brother, Byron (Muriel) Jevne of Madison; sisters-in-law, Sarah and Valerie Jevne; special friend, Bev Depke;many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Honoring a life with a meaningful service is an important step in the grief process and is a gift to their family and friends —
a gift of memories and a gift of healing
