Edward J. Barrett, age 89, of Eau Claire passed away on Monday, July 28, 2014 at Dove Health Care West.

Edward was born on October 5, 1924 to the late Edward D. and Johanna (Baumel) Barrett in Loma Linda, California. He proudly served our country during WWII in the Marine Corps from 1941-1945 participating in the battles of Bougainville, Guam and Iwo Jima. On June 30, 1945, he married Joyce "Joan" Higley in Seattle, Washington. During his life he worked for Uniroyal, retiring in 1980. Being a lifelong resident of Eau Claire, he and Joan enjoyed spending 26 years wintering in Arizona. Edward enjoyed carpentry and remodeling the house.

He is survived by his children, David (Belinda) Barrett of Phoenix, AZ, Linda (Jim) Elbert of Eau Claire, and Jon (Mary) Barrett of Wyoming, MN; grandchildren, Tracy, Melissa, Nancy, Shannon, Jeff, Angela, Elizabeth, and Michael; 19 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson, Amari Parker; brother, Michael Barrett of Eau Claire; and sister, Marie Wolff of Eau Claire; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Edward was preceded by his wife, Joan; special friend, Dorothy.
