Vernon H. Long, age 83, of Eau Claire, passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.

Vernon was born on March 31, 1933 to the late Robert and Pearl (Gay) Long in Eau Claire. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army. On May 19, 1956, he married Joyce J. O'Neil at Lake Street United Methodist Church. He worked for 31 years as an accountant for Uniroyal. Vernon was an avid Packer fan and viewer of Fox News.

Vernon is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joyce; children, John Long of Eau Claire, Randall (Donna) Long of Sierra Vista, AZ, Kris Long of Minneapolis, and Diane (Jeff) Sol of Menomonie; grandson, Eric (Irene) Long; great grandchildren, Lydia, Cecelia and Mia; sister-in-law, Elaine Long; many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Arlene Carothers; and brothers, Eldyn "Peanuts" Cecil and Dean.
