Fred  A. Geyer, age 90, of Eau Claire died on Monday, March 4, 2014 the Syverson Lutheran Home in Eau Claire.

Fred was born on November 11, 1923 to the late Fred G. and Hulda A. (Hoffie) Geyer in Elmhurst, Illinois. Fred attended Lutheran grade school in Elmhurst and graduated from York High School. He proudly served our country in the Army Signal Corps during WWII maintaining airborne radio equipment in Attu, Alaska. Fred was a broadcast engineer/administrator at WGN-TV in Chicago from 1948 until 1979, and then as a sound and video systems engineering consultant in Elk Grove until he retired in 1985.

On May 10, 1947 Fred married the love of his life LaVerne Kamin at Messiah Lutheran Church in Chicago. Eventually they settled in Arlington Heights in 1956 where they resided for nearly 30 years before moving to the Eau Claire, WI area. They were happily married for over 66 years before LaVerne suddenly passed away in November, 2013.

He will be best remembered for serving his Lord and for the great love of his family. He broadcasted church services from St. Peter Lutheran in Arlington Heights, assisted with radio and cassette ministries, provided shut-in visitations, served Meals on Wheels, and acted as President for his condominium association. He loved to bowl, golf, collect stamps, and was an avid Cub fan and followed many sports.

Fred is survived by his children, Janice (Steven) Franck of Eleva, Lawrence (Bethany) Geyer of Arlington Heights, IL, and Wayne (Cathy) Geyer of Vernon Hills, IL; grandchildren, Michael Franck, Erin (Kurt) Mehlberg, David (Jessica) Franck, Megan Geyer, Bradley Geyer, Cari Geyer, Larissa Geyer; great grandchildren, Ethan and Kaitlin and Konner Mehlberg, Gabrielle and Olivia Franck; sisters-in-law, Merle (William) Scholinsky, Erna and Lorraine Kamin; many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, LaVerne; granddaughter, Saran Geyer, and sister, LaVerne P. Geyer.

Honoring a life with a meaningful service is an important step in the grief process and is a gift to their family and friends —
a gift of memories and a gift of healing
