John Follis McCarthy, age 100, formerly of Pickford and Sault Ste. Marie, MI died on Friday, August 8, 2014 at his home in Eau Claire, WI.

John "Jack" was born on December 16, 1913 in Bruce Township, MI in Michigan's Upper Peninsula to the late Michael Joseph and Mildred (Follis) McCarthy. He spent most of his life in Pickford and Sault Ste. Marie, MI moving to Eau Claire in 2007. Jack attended Pickford Public Schools graduating in 1932. On October 28, 1939, he married Verona Garrett and they were married until her death June 1, 2013. 

He worked for the State Highway Department then construction for various companies. He started work at the Cedarville Quarry in 1953 and retired from there in 1976. Jack was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Eau Claire.

Jack is survived by his children, Mike (Kay) McCarthy of Eau Claire, Mary Jacquelyn "Jackie" (Richard) Fineberg of Alamo, CA, Barbara McCarthy of Round Hill, VA; sister, Gladys Carmean of St. Ignace, MI; brother, Howard Joseph McCarthy of Sault Ste. Marie; 8 grandchildren and their spouses; 23 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Verona; son, Richard McCarthy; 5 sisters; 2 brothers;  daughter-in-law, Ilene McCarthy. 

The family would like to thank St. Joseph's Hospice and Heritage Assisted Living for the loving care they gave our parents.
