Robert "Bob" T. Field, age 88, of Eau Claire died on Monday, February 6, 2017 at Dove Health Care - West.

Bob was born in 1929 to the late Edwin and Amelia (Anderson) Field in Eau Claire. In 1946, he graduated from Eau Claire Senior High and attended UWEC. On January 14, 1950 he married Yvonne "Vonnie" Hillestad at First Lutheran Church in Eau Claire.

He proudly served our country for 40 years with the Wisconsin Army National Guard "the Red Arrow" 32nd Infantry Division and the U.S. Army Reserves; retiring as a Lt. Col. Assignments included artillery, mechanized infantry and Army intelligence. Bob served active duty with the 32nd Infantry Division during the Berlin Crisis in 1961 at Fort Lewis, Washington. He was a graduate of the U.S Army Command and General Staff College Officer Course.

fieldDuring his life he worked at the Armour plant in Eau Claire and as an officer with the Eau Claire Police Department retiring as Detective/SGT. After his retirement he owned his own business as a Private Investigator and also worked with the Eau Claire County Sheriff as a Deputy Reserve Officer. He also worked many years (and also retiring from) the Chippewa Valley Technical College as a Parking Lot Enforcement Officer.

He was a very active member of Hope Lutheran Church serving as Trustee on the church Financial Committee and a member of the Eau Claire Masonic Lodge 112 earning the level of 32nd Degree Mason.

When his sons were young, he coached their little league baseball teams and enjoyed cheering on the Packers and Badgers. Bob was also an avid sportsman who loved fishing and deer hunting with family and friends.

Bob and Vonnie spent the spring, summer and fall months living at the cottage on Popple Lake near Jim Falls. They loved sharing the summer holidays and birthdays with family and friends at the cottage. Bob and Vonnie (and the gang with Chippewa Trails) enjoyed getting out of the harsh winters months of January and February by going to Daytona Beach, FL. They would return for a week to two before traveling to the Hale Koa Hotel on Waikiki Beach in Honolulu, Hawaii - which they were able to do 22 times.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the Doctors, nurses, and staff at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Eau Claire and Bloomer, Mayo Clinic Health Home and Hospice, and Dove Healthcare - West for making Dad's last days as comfortable as possible.

Bob is survived by his sons, Gary (Kathy) and Thomas (Inna) Field; daughter, Bonita (Kevin) Roach; grandchildren, Bryan (Melisa) Field, Joel (Lindsey) Field, Adam (Anna) Field, Evgeny "Zhenya" Polezhaev, Mark Roach, Jeff Roach, Brittany (Jessie) Ray, Erin Roach, and Eric Roach; great grandchildren, Evelyn, Ethan, Owen, Colleen, Morgan, MacKenzie, Liberty, Carson, Peyton, Sawyer and Brennan; sister-in-law, Elizabeth House; nephews; a niece; other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Vonnie in October 2016; brother, James (Mary) Field; nephew, Newell House; nieces, Cheryl Thomas and Brenda Capozzi; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Hillestad and Gerald House.

Honoring a life with a meaningful service is an important step in the grief process and is a gift to their family and friends —
a gift of memories and a gift of healing
