WAGNER, Arthur R., age 95

Died: Thursday, August 14th, 2014

Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Donald Meuret officiating

Visitation: 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home and also one hour prior to service at church.

Interment: Calvary Cemetery, Town of Washington, Wisconsin

In lieu of plants or flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Wisconsin's Veterans Home in Chippewa Falls.

Arthur R. "Stir" Wagner, age 95, of Eau Claire passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2014 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Chippewa Falls with family by his side.

Arthur was born on January 21, 1919 to the late Arthur C. and Mary Clare (Bowe) Wagner in Edgar, Wisconsin. He grew up in the Neillsville area and attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison following graduation from high school. On April 14, 1941, he married Dolores Scott in Louisiana just prior to his deployment to the European conflict. Arthur married Mary Ann Hahn on December 27, 1983.

For 35 years he proudly served our country in the U.S. Army which included active duty from 1940-1946 participating in 5 European campaigns with the 83rd Infantry "Thunderbolt" Division. From 1961 to 1962, he served during the Berlin Crisis. For his service, he was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, twice with the Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster for Heroic Action, ETO Badge, Meritorious Service Medal, The Order of the Bronze deFluery Medal, Presidential Unit Award, and National Defense Medal. He was inducted into the Wisconsin Army National Guard Hall of Honor in 2006.

He was the co-owner of Wagner's Lanes in Eau Claire with his brothers, Chet and Kenneth, from 1949 until his retirement in 2003. During that time Wagner's was voted into the Eau Claire Chamber of Commerce Business Hall of Fame. Arthur was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, the Elk and Moose Lodges, and the Eau Claire Tavern League.

Arthur is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; children, Brenda (Bob) Bailey, Robert "Mark" (Sharon Gatlin) Wagner, Pat (Tom) Ludwikoski, Greg (Vicki Zimbric) Wagner, Barb (Jerry) Berseth, Georgia (Chuck) Gile, Dick Wagner, Chuck (Jackie) Wagner, Steve (Vicki) Wagner; step-children, Lucy (Bill) Gorell, Amy Hahn, Richard Root, and Fred (Debbie) Hahn; 27 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 1 step great grandchild; very special friend, Donna Wagner; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dolores in 1976; sister, Betty; brothers, Chet and Kenneth; and son-in-law, Mike Carlson.
