Caroline L. Wirkus, age 82, of Eau Claire died on Sunday, April 5, 2015 at Mayo Clinic Health System-Eau Claire appropriately on the day we celebrated the resurrection of her Lord and Savior.

Caroline was born on February 24, 1933 to the late Ernst and Elsie (Gaskins) Sturm in Chicago, IL. She attended school in Elmhust, IL graduating from York High School and then from Elmhurst College with a major in elementary education and certification as a reading teacher.

At age 15, she met her future husband, Augie, then 16, in the youth fellowship at their church and eight years later they were married. She taught 4th grade in Manitowoc and Elmhurst and reading in Elmhurst, Baraboo, and Eau Claire. Caroline enjoyed reading, handwork, and Bible Study with her many friends at Bethesda Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her husband, Augie; sister, Elsie Paulan, both of Eau Claire; nieces and nephews, Scott Paulan of Pardeeville, WI, Beverly Paulan of Eau Claire, Barbara Lee of Chicago, Tom Lee of Carbondale, IL and Andrea Prim of Mt. Pleasant, SC; brother-in-law, Ray (Nancy) Wirkus of Long Grove, IL; many other relatives and friends.

Honoring a life with a meaningful service is an important step in the grief process and is a gift to their family and friends —
a gift of memories and a gift of healing
